History

The vision for the NDC Youth Clause was developed during an intimate intergenerational roundtable at the 16th United Nations biodiversity conference (COP16) in Cali, Colombia, hosted by We Are Family Foundation and Bezos Earth Fund. Three weeks later, the campaign launched with all three partners at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking the beginning of a year of purposeful community events amplifying the campaign on domestic and global stages.

Over the year that followed, the campaign convened key stakeholders and country partners at key events including COP29, COP30, SB62, UNGA80, and the London and New York climate weeks. Through our Youth Advisory Network, we hosted 14 advocacy meetings with a network of 200 youth ambassadors to host NDC consultations with their governments to promote the Clause, as well as a training session for the UNFCCC Action for Climate Empowerment Focal Points. At COP30, we celebrated the campaign’s success with our partners from the Dominican Republic, Liberia, and Norway.
